Our Story, thus far
It was a rainy day like no other. The thunder was so loud the windows shook. The lightning lit up the wet landscape. Unfortunately, I was outside, trudging in the crazy weather. I came around a corner and realized I couldn't see a thing. The rain was so fierce I couldn't see through it. As a walked, arms outstretched. I tripped over something and landed on my face. As I got up, I noticed something shiny in the rain. It was what I had tripped over before. I carefully walked towards the object and bent down.
An obnoxiously loud clap of thunder shook my body, and I toppled forwards into the cement again. Groaning, I lifted my self from the ground, my curiosity taking over my since of hygiene for the moment. I grasped the mud-caked... thingamajig and attempted to figure out what it was- even when I couldn't see crap. My head bent closer to the object, I could see some markings on it (a sort of coin, maybe? or was it far too large? My senses were too numb to tell.). Before a could get the slightest clue, a thin, slimy creature sank through my fingers. I screeched in disgust, flinging the shiny thing to the ground and plucking the earthworm from my hand.
I threw the worm into the street where it simultaneously got ran over by a car, and returned my attention to the shiny thing. I searched for where it had landed after my spasm with the worm. I saw it over by a tree off to the side of the road. Going over to it, I noticed the weather getting progressively worse. I bent down to pick it up again. The rain was a little lighter under the tree, and I was grateful for that. As I picked it up, I heard the loudest clap of thunder in my life and collapsed under the tree as my world faded to black...
When I woke up, I was still under the tree, and in my hand was the coin. It had odd engravings around the edges, and some sort of animal in the center. I looked around, rubbing my sore head. That was some storm. I slowly got up, and staggered out from under the tree. As I looked around, I realized that I didn't recognize my surroundings. Where was I?
And why was I even under a tree? Colorful flowers and giant trees surrounded me. I could hear the sound of enormous wings from above and looked up. And I saw the biggest TURKEY I've ever seen. The thing must have been at least 200 pounds. I never knew turkeys could fly, and with such a weight too!. It was the type of turkey that would eat you for Thanksgiving, instead of you eating it. What's worse is that it was headed right towards me! All the karate and self-defense classes I took were no help against an overweight turkey. Closer and closer it swooped. I scrambled up, looking for things to use as weapons to defend myself. I found a rock and the strange coin from before. I threw the rock as hard as I could at the bird’s eye but it didn't even get close to the monster. This is the end, Danette, I thought. I threw my arms over my head for protection from the huge, deadly claws getting closer and closer.
And then I heard nothing. With my arms held over my face all I saw was blackness. Am I dead? I peered out and sighed. The turkey was gone. Where it went, who cares? I wondered what had made that monster run away? I vowed never to eat turkey again and began checking out my surroundings. The tree I was standing under was huge. I mean, bigger than the trees in that park in Californian, sequoias. And the flowers, have you ever seen a neon green flower with a black stem? Whoa. RAWWWR! I flinched, looking up, knowing I would hate what I saw. "Oh crap." And I knew why the turkey ran away.
